its a So Cal truck, never washed underneath.

I could honestly do it in 2-2.5 hours If I didnt screw around. With stopping and taking pictures and writing down the steps it was about 3.5 hours. It took forever cause I didnt have a helper. this is the 3rd time so it gets quicker every time

if you drain it first it takes a bit longer but you end up without fluid on the floor.

I have a 01 chevy as my daily driver and also bought one as a parts truck my tranny started slipping but the one in my parts truck was rebuilt 800 miles before I bought and parked it. It was rebuilt at a reliable shop I got paper work everything. I want to switch them but don't know what it if any gasket and so forth I need to buy. Any list of help in that would be greatly appreciated

If you’re just swapping it, nothing but time is needed.

However, since you’re under there, I’d recommend a new rear main seal set. It’ll come with the seal and rear plate gasket.

If the new seal has the plastic piece in it, leave it. That’s the install tool piece to center it on the crank.

What I did was as start 4 rear plate bolts, insert the seal with the tool, then tighten torque the 4 bolts I started.

When it comes to the 2 long bolts, be careful. Those get torqued at 108in-lb. NOT 18ft-lb like the rest of the oil pan bolts.

Also remove the engine kmember so you can drop the trans down to get the top bolt easier.

Having a couple of 2ft extensions will be your best friends.

Remove the starter and break loose the converter bolts through the starter hole.

This is a "GREAT" How-To as I am more of a visual person and can appreciate the pics - so THANK YOU!!!!!

I did an LS swap earlier this year and the Transmission finally took a dump on me yesterday - won't shift into 3rd, had to shift into 2 and drive it home. Figures it would do this at this time after I just dropped some money on some wheels that I could've used on the Trans instead - FML!
So this Thread will help me 100 times over as I search for a replacement trans and replace the old one.

THANKS AGAIN!!!!!!!

Sadly,

I've done it so many times I don't need this anymore.

I'm able to pull it in my driveway on 12ton jackstands in about 90min.
