Default 4l60-e build or 4l65e

First off I know an 4l80 is the ideal way to go, but I don't want to have to change my drive train up. I am looking for opinions on building up my 4l60 or buying a 4l65 and swapping. I have an avalanche i am looking to swap a 6.0 into. I have read in a couple places that the shaft is different on the 65 and needs to be swapped out. Also i can pick up a rebuilt 65 for about 1000 bucks with a converter, and about that for all the rebuild stuff for the 60. I'm just wondering if someone has had experience with this. Any help is great.
Thanks

A 65e is a 60e with 5 pinion planets and a few minor things, direct swap bit a tad stronger. No where near a 80e though.

I am looking at rebuilding it myself. I plan on doing the 5 pinion planets, beast sunshell, state 1 kit that includes raybestos zpaks, billet servos, and going up a little in stall. I doubt I will even break 400hp at the crank with the lq9, thats why I don't think theres too much of a need for an 80.

Many of the pro builders Like FLT are using the Sonnax smart shell and not the "beast" sun shell.
There are other parts that will need to be replaced if you want to go to the 5 pinion planets.
Here is a link to info on the sun shellSun Shells - Stock 2001, The Beast, Sonnax Smart Shell - LS1TECH
Ted(mrvedit) over on LS1Tech has a lot of good info if you truely want to rebuild the trans by yourself.
