Default 45 series or 50 series?

i bought some 20'' tires about amonth ago but still have not bought the tires, i am still undecided on which type of tire to get, 45 series or 50 series? how long do u think the 45 series will last as opposed to the 50 series? its on a daily driver 5.3 ext cab silverado, i burnout here and there when we leave work when my buddy in his suburban tries to show off, maybe 3 times a week i do a burnout, so about how long do u think the 45 series will last? also what do yall think will look better? thx

Stock height truck? Dropped? A 275/45/20 will be close to stock height. Many people use a 285/50/20 on a stock truck to help fill the fender gap. I believe some have even used the 285/50/20 on a 2/4 drop as well.

I would think they would both last the same amount of time, given they are the same brand and model tire.

Profile has nothing to do with how long the tire will last.

On the other hand, THIS does. No tire is going to last long doing that. Usually the treadwear value is your best indication of longevity. The best thing to do is not abuse the tires. I got 75,000 miles on mine before I took them off the truck - they still got about 10,000 miles left on them.

This is really going to be a personal preference. But it really comes down to what size diameter and how wide a tire you want. Profile size will be driven by that. IMO, it's crazy to pick your tire by a profile number.

I got a 2" rear drop right now, but I plan on doing a 2/4 in the future, I saw a SS silvy with a 2/4 drop and 50 series on 20" factory rims, and it looked damn good, so I'm hopin my truck will look close to what his did with 50 series

what he is saying is that you have to determine the width of tire you want before you chose a profile.

for example:

275/60/17 is shorter than a 285/60/17. both tires have the same "profile" but it is dependant on the width. does that make any sense?

if you plan on doing the 2/4 drop i would recommend the 45 series sidewall. to me it looks better having a tad smaller sidewall heigth. but not ghetto like half and inch sidwall.

I have a 45 profile and a 50 profile on my truck - both tires are the diameter as are the wheels. From a profile view, there is no difference in the look (the sidewalls are the same height)

Does that help any?

Ah 275 - now the profile has more meaning. As you know, or might not, the 275/50 would be a bit taller than stock, so if you are lowered or thinking about lowering, the 275/45 might be a better choice - just from a height perspective.

On a stock height vehicle, the 275/50 will look better than the 45. Also, the 275/50 will give you a higher load rating than the 275/45 - this might be important to you, it might not.
