If your 4L80 with a 30 inch tall tire:

3.73 will put you around 2200 RPM

3.42 will put you around 2000 RPM

HTH

I still like the 3:73 with the 4L80E

The 1 truck I drove with 3:42's and an 80E was a turbo and I still didn't like the gear ratio. I think the tire ratio was smaller too.

I had a 10 bolt 3.42 behind my cammed 330 RWHP 5.7/4L80E in my Express with the B82 factory converter that stalls ~2,400. Maybe it was the 6,200 lbs curb weight, but it was a slug compared to the S10 stalled 4L60E that was in it before. When I broke a spider gear I put a 3.73 geared 14-bolt in its place. Considering regearing to 4.10s soon. Being able to run 50 mph in 1st gear and over 90 mph in 2nd @ 5,500 rpm is pretty cool though.

I have 3.42s and 31" tires and it's not that bad around town. My commute is mostly highway so that's mainly why I went with them.

I can live with a couple hundred more rpm's. I thinks the 3.73 is going to be a good compromise! t6axis also recommended the 3.73's...

im so glad i read this, i thought something was wrong with my setup. i have an 80e in my s10 with 3.42s and it feels like a slug off the line, much better when its rolling though. im swapping to a 8.8 with 3.73s so hopefully thatll cure my issue.

Find out what width the Cadillac brougham (sp?) 14 bolt width is. It would be cool if it was narrow enough to fit an S10.
