Default 2WD 4L80 swap advice

I know the swap is old as dirt, but I held to my 60 roots long as I could. I started this thread because things change and new techniques are discovered and I would like to get some info and help others easily find the same updated info. This swap will be on a 2000 regular cab truck. Please share any advice on how to do this swap without spending all my time on the phone giving out my credit card number. I would rather hear about making a line work than buying one.

1. I have the 6.0/80e flexplate and long bolts
2. I will be fabbing my own cross member
3. Extend cooler lines
4. Install different yolk on stock D/S (reg cab)
5. Have efilive (need to learn segment swap!) for 80e
6. Need to buy a 1K$ plus converter...ouch!
7. Repin wiring/add sensor https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...g-swap-413157/
8. Exhaust work/ Hopefully my KBRacing kit will clear.
9.
Thanks in advance for anyone who takes their time to help.

Are you rebuilding and 80E or running a junkyard unit?

Theres not really much to it. If your 60e is still working you could sell it to help cover a good chunk of the swap.

flex plate depends on what bolt pattern converter you're running.

you can get a 80e converter with the 60e pads/bolt pattern on it

If your cross memeber bolts to the bottom of your frame, then redrill the holes to the new location, and that's it.

Extend your cooler lines

get a shorter drive shaft

Reflash the PCM with a 80e tune, or get your current tune changed to a 80e segment tune.

A dipstick and tube. And remember to install it before you put the tranny up in place.

A tranny cooler. Even if you have one in your truck now. If your 60 is going, then there is debris in your cooler now. If it is a trucool style, they are impossible to flush.

I would make provisions to check your temp if you don't have a way now.

I went with a new shaft. Some people don't. I look at it this way, if you are making the power for an 80, then you will want to use that power. If a stock shaft let's loose, you would be extremely mad at yourself for not upgrading it when you did the tranny.

I spent more time on my exhaust than I did the tranny, so make provisions for that.

Get plenty of fluid, an empty tranny, converter, cooler lines, and cooler takes a lot of fluid. I think mine was 14 qts.

If you are doing your own segment swap, get the matching OS 80 tune now so you aren't waiting on that.

I cut off the passenger ear on my bellhousing so it fit better. Don't get it in place before you remember this step.

I can't think of anything else off of the top of my head.

If you use your old neutral safety switch, don't mess up the clock position when you slide it off the shaft.

@TooTall, that's good to know. You learn something new everyday.
