2005 silverado 4x4 power steering install
#1
Hi guys, I have an 05 crew 4x4, Truck always makes light squeek when turning, also in the winter when i start it the power steering pump makes a lot of noise. I put an auto steth to it at idle and it sounded fine, i'm wondering if bearing is ok ,just squeeks when under load? Also how hard are steering pumps to install? Did one on my dads 01 2500hd 8.1 and it was a pain in the but, had to bleed out hydro box as well and it would grind like crazy. to this day its noisy as well. I'm very mechanical just wanted to know of any secrets?

Not hard imo... You have to pull the pulley off with a puller... You can purchase a puller or rent one from a parts chain like oreillys.... All i remember was pulling the pulley off, 4 bolts ( i believe ) a pressure line and a return line.. Have line wrenches available... I would suck as much fluid out of the resevoir as i could with a transfer pump first, to minimize the mess... Install the new pump... And bleed...
