Support as needed @ the correct points on frame &/ or under rear axle hsg. I believe you want to support so weight is unsprung. I might not be saying that correctly. Others may add their .02. I sprayed w/ WD40 (use whatever)...both a day or so b4, & the day of susp. work. But I'm up north too & didn't want to fight rust. Raise enough so shocks(FRONT) drop out bottom. Top mount may give fits. Reinstall new.
(REARS)At rear, do 1 side at a time. Stay out from under axle housing so it doesn't drop down on you. Support axle &/or frame to unload suspension I believe is the term. If you have impact, the might need it. Replace & tighten. Lower onto ground. Retighten, I believe its called preloading. How'd I do guys?
Shocks is all you are doing, right?

Just a suggestion but check to make sure you still have your swaybar end links attached. I have read of them just coming off (mainly after front control arm modifications) but you never know.

Sounds like a good plan. Keep us posted or if more Q's, fire away, & we'll try to answer. Good luck!
