Default 2000 z71 Transmission not working after used T-case install

Hi Im new to the forums here. I am in need of some help with my 2000 silverado z71 5.3l 4l60e w/ 246GM Auto transfer case.

I performed a simple R&R on my original T-case, due to pump/bearing failure. I reinstalled a Used one from a local salvage yard. Everything went smoothly.

After all fluid level were topped off, i threw it in gear and had nothing. i noticed that, when in drive the speedo went up to about 15MPH. i went from Drive to Reverse and Low gear, still notta thing. When i shifted it back to park i heard a Clicking noise, not sure if the noise was from tranny or T case.

I pulled the Tcase back off the ensure i had the input shaft in correctly, and all seemed right. After i bolted her back up and found that nothing had changed at this point, i proceeded to put my previous T case shift motor on the salvaged tcase, still no luck.

As everything worked great before the r&r, except for the noise from pump/bearings. i am hoping it is something quite simple. maybe i plugged a wire in the wrong spot? any help would be great as this is my only vehicle and i need it going ASAP.

So you just replaced the tcase?

Are you sure the tcase is in 2wd and not neutral? If you still had it off the vehicle I would try and turn the input shaft by hand to see if the output shaft turns as well.

That noise is from the transmission turning the input shaft of the transfer case, but the transfer case is free spinning in neutral. Trying up put it in park with the trans spinning like that doesn't allow the pawl to drop down and lock the output of the trans. It just skips across the teeth and makes that noise. So your transfer case is in neutral. Is the encoder motor plugged in?

Check the 4WD fuses in the under hood fuse box.

**update** this has me a little more confused.
I just got off the phone with the "junkyard" (no longer a salvage yard to me) haha. they told me they had this transfer case stocked wrong. i was told it came from a 2500hd today. they said there are more splines on the tcase I installed than on my old one. Because i didnt count the splines to begin with, i am forced to believe them.

Although the procces gear tag is the exact same as on my old one, i find hard to understand. Is this a possibility or are they making excuses for selling me junk?

If it came from a 2500hd then chances are it was bolted to a 4l80e which has a larger transmission output shaft. If this is the case there is a good chance your smaller 4L60E output shaft is just free spinning inside the larger 80E input housing on the T-Case. This would cause your problem you are having.

This transfer case input adapter pictured is different then yours ( this is a AWD one) but you can see in the picture this is comparing a 60E output shaft to a 80E transfer case input. Big difference in size, as you can see its not even close to engaging the splines.

alright thanks for the insight on this subject. i just thought that the shafts wouldn't fit together, but this explains why it was so easy to line up. it just fell right in place both times i put it in. Thanks for all the help guys.
