Default 2000 silverado 4wd issue

i got a buddy with a 2000 z71 and it won't go into 4hi/4lo when selected on the dash, but it goes into 4wd when "4auto" is selected. is there any obvious issues that i can tackle initially? my first thoughts are either the switch itself or the actuator. any good starting places guys?

thanks in advance!

I had a similar issue and changed the switch. It fixed the problem and has been good for about a year.

I had the same problem. I bought a motor, and later read t could be the switch. I removed the switch, and soldered every connection on the back as it was suggested somewhere I read. It has been two years working fine. Try to solder it first, it could be a free fix. If you need the motor, I have a brand new one that hads never been installed if you are interested.

If you know someone at a dealer have them scan with a tech2 first. My truck started throwing service 4WD lights and I checked with the tech2 and said faulty switch. Replaced the 4WD selector switch and haven't had an issue since.
