Default 2000 rcsb driveshaft explosion!!!

2000 Silverado single cab short bed. Lowered with 3 inch coils in front and flip kit and 2 inch shackles in the rear with a bolt in notch. So I recently installed a converter and gear swap and took to the tuners to have some work done. Got it done and on the way home I was running it pretty hard and the shaft just exploded. Don't know if its hitting the crossmember or the back of the cab. I don't know what happened but it broke the shaft in three pieces. It left about 2/3 of it attached to the rear end and broke off at the yoke on the transmission and stuck the piece threw the floor. Any info on this would b greatly appreciated. Thanks

If it was a stock aluminum driveshaft it doesn't surprise me, they are only good for 95-100mph and will vibrate and come apart.

Otherwise you need to make sure it's not rubbing anywhere, even under a heavy load. Make sure pinion angle is good so it doesn't cause extra vibrations.

i dont believe it is aluminum. I could be wrong tho. So do u think my best beat would be to get one built? I mean I've been hopping up the truck and it runs fairly well. I hadn't got 10 miles with the tune and it happened. Just curious to what to do to keep it from happening again.

Could be bad luck, could be installer error.

I had my stock driveshaft out a couple of times and never had this happen.

Stock driveshafts in rcsb are known to explode especially once the truck gets more hp and speed. Plenty of horror stories like this running around the net. It doesnt help when people change suspension geometry and never check pinion angle or clearance. Best best it to check oinion angle and get a custom driveshaft made.

The lowering kit actually came with the pieces to makes pinion angle correct. So it's not out of whack. Its roughly 62 1/2 inches from the tranny to the rear end. I guess I'm gonna have a steel shaft made and hope that it fixes the issue. I just don't want it to happen again. Lol it was a scetchy ride when t come apart

Did the tuner have it on the dyno?? If so that could have caused it to start coming apart, and you finished it on the way home!

No sir it wasn't on a dyno. From what everyone is saying that's looked at it... it looks like it came apart at the yoke.

It was a thought.... I know the couple shops around here wont put a truck on a dyno anymore that has a stock driveshaft, have had a couple come apart on the dyno!!
