1st to 2nd shifts at high rpm...
#1
I ran into a little problem with my truck...When I shift from 1st to 2nd it wants to shift near redline or I have to back off completely to let it shift. This came out of nowhere last night on the way home from my local track.
Also, when I floor it, the engine redlines immediatley instead of taking off almost as if it were being shifted into neutral.
What kind of problem am I looking at here? Torque Converter?
Thanks

I havent gotten any codes or faults in my programmer, i just drove it again to double check. It hangs real bad in the 1st to 2nd shift. After that everything is fine...until I step on it and then it just redlines until I let off and then grabs a gear.

I have pretty much the same thing going on. Under normal driving 1st holds to about 4200rpm then shifts. I scanned it while driving and the 1-2 solenoid is calling for the shift, but it doesn't happen. Then when the 2-3 comes it goes straight to 3rd from 1st. But, every other gear seems fine.
I changed the solenoid, but that didn't help. I changed the drivers side solenoid, hopefully that was the right one.

If it does it from a stop I think the band is ruled out. You also mention nothing about losing fourth. If the band were fried you'd be having more trouble getting into overdrive than into second.
I think you've got forward clutch issues. That could be from low pressure from a boost valve malfunction, pump, or maybe even fluid level. Could be also that the piston has a torn lip seal or something like that. Whatever the case, it sounds like loss of apply pressure to me.
