1993 4L80E upgrade to 1995 4L80E
My stepson's being given the runaround by his buddy who "supposedly" knows transmissions. But has been told to buy all sorts of parts (that end up not fitting of course).

Vehicle:
1993 chevy 1 ton 3500 4wd 6.5 1st gen turbo gm diesel (1993 4L80E transmission)
Trying to install:
1995 4L80e transmission
So upgrading a 93' 4L80E to a 95' 4L80E
I've been pouring through websites and forums and people are upgrading from 4L60's to the 4L80's, but I'm not seeing upgrades in the same type of tranny, just a newer model.
From the sites I've been perusing, I've gathered that we may need to do the following:
1) new wiring harness to the ECM
2) new ECM with new wiring harness
3) simply flashing the pram in the current 1993 ECM
4) Speed sensors?
5) Solenoids changes?
So what do we actually need to do here is my question?
We're gonna find someone qualified to do the work, but I want to be able to let my step-son know what to expect so that he's not shopping for any more parts that don't fit, and so that he knows what to expect at a reputable shop

I'm at work and don't have my guides but transmission lines might be in different locations, so there might be plumbing work. Also if the newer trans has a neutral safety switch the PRNDL selecting shaft might be too long, so that might mean opening the case to get a shorter one in.... well.... if you can't just trim it. Speed sensors, solenoids are all the same I think. Well, some newer trans solenoids run at a higher freq PWM which I don't know if requires replacement to work with your ECM.
I didn't give many answers but questions that might get your targeted and helpful answers.
Hopefully smarter people can chime in.
