The 10.5" Eaton Posi is worth ever penny. 100% predictable and consistent behavior under all conditions. I have the standard 400-pound springs in mine and it will easily scuff the inside tire with a little throttle in a corner. At full throttle anywhere in first gear it behaves like a spool. They are expensive but you get what you pay for in my opinion. It's worked flawlessly for the entire 45,000 miles I've had it.

Thank you for the reply James. Will the Eaton remain locked at any wheel speed? I like the idea of positive engagement lockers like the Powertrax, but I have rarely heard of anyone using them and I question their strength. As long as the Eaton will hold up to the abuse (sounds like you have put yours through the paces) and stay locked at high speeds I will give it a shot.

That's cool, James- can you specify the springs in the diff., or do ya get what ya get. And BTW- anyone know anything about the front axles on a half- ton truck, it it open? I'd like to stuff an E- Z Locker up there..........

Eaton posis are available with 400# (stock), 600 and 800. The 400 pound springs are perfectly streetable, I can't imagine wanting it tighter. They can be custom ordered with the 600 or 800 pound springs already installed, so you won't end up paying for them twice.
An Eaton Posi works at any speed. This is a limited slip differential. It gets tighter as input torque increases whether a wheel is spinning or not. Because it "limits slip" as power comes on, it actually prevents wheelspin. The G80 has a mechanism with centrifigal flyweights that begin to spin as the difference in speed between the two axle shafts increases. At a certain point of difference that flyweight catches and input torque is used to apply the clutches. It actually responds to wheel spin, so by the time the G80 actually begins to work you've already lost traction and now the differential has to work against the spinning already taking place. (It's no wonder they blow up.) The little pawl that the flyweights latch to is also centrifugally weighted. Past about 30mph it becomes impossible for the flyweight shaft to activate the clutches. It is possible to modify a G80 to work at any speed but disengagement consistency becomes an issue. The Posi has none of these little gears, weights, and mechanisms. It's a much more simple design.

THanks, James- on a side note, I recently gunked out my rear; I don't have a G80 or anything back there, but interestingly enough- more force is being transferred to the left rear wheel, I lit them up on the dirt. It used to work pretty good when new, but fell off as time went on, experienced that with a couple new vehicles, never cleaned out a rear though.........

Wiped clean.

did you find out if the carrier would accept the locker? I found this:

Differential: GM 10-1/2" 14 bolt
Spline Count: 30
Part #225S-10
This Detroit Locker fits inside of the stock open or standard carrier case.
Will not work inside of OEM Gov-Lock Posi case!

How do you determine if you have a Gov-Lock Posi Case?

No aftermarket locker will fit inside the G80 carrier. You can check the codes in your glove box to see if G80 is listed. If you have a 3/4 ton or 4x4 you will have the G80. You can buy a stock GM open carrier for about $300, then any locker will fit.

I am happy with my Eaton so far. It completely replaces the carrier so you don't need to worry about what was previously in the axle. Just bolt in.

The 10.5" is a little weird because you cannot see the spider gears inside... BUT, you can see the shafts for the spiders. Count them. The factory open 10.5" carrier has 4 spiders and the factory G80 10.5" carrier has three spider gears.
