08 5.3 Chevy 1500 ext cab 2wd 342 gear
Hey,
I have a new chevy truck that I just had the computer tuned on. My goal was to get the truck to do a decent burnout after the tune. We turned off all the torque management stuff and did the tune up and still won't spin the tires. The truck has 275/55 20's and 342 gear. The guy who did the tune said if I put a 3000 stall in that it should really wake up and do pretty good burnouts. Dyno results were 242hp and 278 torque at the rear wheels. Has anyone done this and with what results?? I would like to get the the truck where it will blow the back tires off of it!!

You've got it easy being 2wd, you only have to change out 1 set of gears. I'd ditch the 3.42's for 3.90's or 4.10's, THEN have your tuner come back and do a better job. What you have is not necessarily a lack of engine power, you have a lack of gear multiplication. Let the gears do the work for you, leave the converter alone. With just 3.90's you're looking at 12% more power to the ground every time you touch the pedal, and it'll make your 20's feel like 16's again.

If you are willing to sacrifice that, then changing gears will make a huge difference.
Gears will not give you more power, but they will help acceleration.

Most people don't notice a difference in mileage on the gear swap. Depending on your driving habits some people even see an increase. It'll help on city driving.
I agree on getting a better tune. I put down 280/290 with Full Exhaust, Transmission, and Tune. With 275/55/20"s I could smoke the hell outta them just leaving a stop light.
After the cam swap I can only do a burnout on certain pavement. But I think that's partially because I have new back brakes and need new Fronts.
If all you care about is destroying tires get a LineLock. Problem solved.

If you can dig yourself out of this comment, I'll be surprised.
Explain how you think lower gears will not multiply the torque from his motor, yet accelerate him quicker. I'm really excited to read your response.

I don't have the dash button for the traction control but do have the idiot light on the dash that used to come on when the tires were spinning (wet conditions). I haven't driven the truck on wet roads since the tune to see if the light still comes on. The guy who did the tune said he turned it off. I think I'll change to a 4.10 gear and see what happens. Everyone I talked to about the tuner really bragged on his abilities and were all happy with their results. I'd hate to blow another chunk of change to get another tune and still not get any better results.

They have a traction and a stability control.I have an 07 NBS GMC 5.3L with 3.73 gears and I can't get it to burn out either. Also if you get it to burn out posi once you hit 20mph burning out it will burn out negative traction.
