Default 03-07 vs 99-02 transfer case?

I have found several transfer cases for the 99-02 trucks that are decently priced, but I can not locate a 03-07 transfer case that is below $800.

I have a 04 z71 4l60, dash switch and I'm wondering if a transfer case from a 99-02 will work with no modification?

Its probably the electronic motor type vs the manual shift type to explain the cost difference. If they are the same type then I am pretty sure they are the exact same between those years.

I can find a 99-02 for electronic shift all day long for $200-$300. However, a 03-07 electronic shift is at a minimum of $800.

Seems like the 99-02 transfer case front drive shaft still spins while in 2WD, but the 03-07 does not?

The 03-07 transfer cases drag the clutches and turn the front shaft in 2wd as well.

On my 04 manual case the front drive shaft was still. I think the key there is it was a manual tcase not the electronic one. I like the manual cases better. Feeling it clunk into engagement is much more satisfying than watching a little flashing LED.

I dunno. I love mine in auto mode. It puts you in 4WD seamlessly, then back to 2WD when you hit a patch of road with no snow or ice.

I like not having to think about a 30lb drive shaft having to instantly go from completely stopped to matching wheel speed when I hit 4wd at 75mph. You never know when someone next to you on the highway is going to need a good thrashing.

What do you mean? The operators manual says to never exceed 40mph in 4wd, surely you aren't violating the operating instructions!

I accelerate hard at times next to other cars, but to only clean the carbon deposits out of my engine.
