Default 01 Silverado Ex. Cab 2WD 2/4 drop

Hey all,
New to the forum. I plan on dropping my truck. It's a 2001 Chevy Silverado LS extended cab, 4.8, 2WD. I want to use McGaughy 2" spindles with brackets and shackles out back. I currently have factory 20's on the truck shod with 275/55/20 tires. Diameter of the tires is roughly 32". With all the experences out there, can anyone predict if I am going to have any tire rubbing issues with that tire and drop combo?

And just out of curiosity, is there such thing as a 1/3 drop or am I smokin' dope?

Thanks in advance.

I personally ran a 2.5/5 drop with the same 275/55/20 tire. I would recommend you personally getting a notch to prevent bottoming out on the axle, or invest in a set of helpers to prevent the above mentioned. I only rubbed on full lock as well. And liked how the tire filled the wheel well.

Older pics I had saved

At 2/5

At 2.5-3/6 275/55/20 as well.

And just incase you want to go lower

4/7 on 275/45/20s

At 2/4 you will be okay in the rear without a notch. I run 285/50R20 tires in the front with a 2" drop and rub slightly on the sway bar at full lock. So you will probably have a similar issue. It's not a bit deal IMO.

That's correct, all mcgaughys from tims suspension. Notch was mcgaughys as well, it is said you dont need a notch at 4", but I prefer to be safe than sorry. Only thing that wasn't Mcgaughys were my front/rear shocks. I ran Belltech Street Performers there. And the Mcgaughys helper bag kit bolts up to the mcgaughys notch if you go that route, saves you a headache.

I just went out and took some measurments. I have about 1.5 to 1.75 inches between the axel tube and the bump stop. If I install a 4 inch drop in the back, that will leave me about 1 inch between the axle tube and the frame, after whacking off the bump stops. When they say its a 4 inch drop, is it really a 4 inch drop? I am having a hard time believing I can get away without the notch. I still plan on using the truck as a truck. I don't haul much that often, but if the situation arises, I don't want to be slamming the axle into the frame.

On a side note, waaaaaaaay back in 1988, I bought a GMC S15. Standard cab, short box, Black, 2.8 V6 w/ 5 speed manual (4.3 was offered w/ automatic only). Within weeks of purchase, I dropped it and voided out the warantee instantly. I am not sure what I installed, I think it was a 2/4. Springs up front and blocks out back. Rode like ****! Absolutly worthless in anything more than a 1/4 inch of snow. Flowmaster exhaust went on next, sounded pretty good for such a small engine. Installed a big, fat swaybar up front. That little truck turned corners like ******* crazy. Absolutly no body roll. You could drift that little 2.8 through corners pretty nicely. I had the neighbor guy (a HUGE gearhead with talent) squirt some candy graphics on it. If I can find some pictures, I will post them.

4" varies from truck to truck. Mine rides 1-1.5" from the shortened bumpstops I got with the Belltech kit. And it only hits if I go over speed bumps too fast.

Also, if you need pinion angle shims then that will take away a small amount from the 4".

not so much, I am 4" in the rear and I bottom out a bit, then put anything in the bed at all, or have occupants and you will hate life. Everyone said that, and I went without a notch, now one sits in my garage awaiting install.

My BT flip came with shims, and new bump stops, I cut them down to the last ring.
