Sure it does, it means just because he has more power doesn't mean he pulls them from a roll. You take a car thats 400 rwhp and a truck thats 400 rwhp and the truck will lose from a roll as long as traction isn't an issue. From a dig it would be a closer race because the weight advantage of the car isn't as big of a factor at slower speeds. At the track I was running quicker 1/8 times than a 4.6 stang, from a roll, he wins.

^^^^ not true. what if the truck had a huge converter and better gears, and the car had no converter and shitty gears. they could both have 400hp, and the truck would win more then likely.

It is true, I wasn't making an assumption, I was stating real world facts. I had a huge converter and better gears, at the track I got out on him, won the race in the first 60 ft. When you take away the holeshot, it was a different story.

While the driveline may help some, from a roll its a power to weight thing.

My truck came with 295 hp, tuned it, longtubes, ory, cai, ported tb etc. I would say ive added at least 25 hp?? That would put the flywheel at a generous 320.

I ran a 2000 ws6, auto, bone stock, 3.23 gears factory 320 hp. I had 4.10's and an ss4000. I got raped from a roll. From a dig, I was side by side 1/8 mile, lost by a few cars in the 1/4.

I think that people like roll racing cause its at high speeds than most can obtain the 1/4 mile. Plus as stated before it is much easier on parts. At the strip you need traction aids to launch hard with high hp.

i roll race because its alot less risky than running from a dig on the street...

stopping in the middle of the road, doing a big burnout then sitting on my converter and launching is rather conspicious! but going froma 50 roll on the hghway isnt so noticeable. id rather not have my truck taken away from me........ but also like Phantom said, im still game for pretty much anything at the right place and right time

Lock the converter and try that race again... Consider the name, 'torque converter'...it takes higher RPM, relatively low torque input and converts it to a lower RPM, higher torque output. Since you lose RPM on the output, you lose wheel horsepower. Drag racers have long used trap speeds as a rough gauge for horsepower.

Edit: Here's a good video that shows why this is true. These are guys that I know here in Tucson, and have watched these cars in person...

The torque of the vette gets him moving and more or less wins the race, but the supra drives by him like he's standing still once it hits the power band. The extra 233hp that the supra has WILL make him pull the vette back in, every time. I'm not flogging the supra here, just pointing out a real-world comparison. Your huge converter can be likened to the torque of the vette, while his power is like the supra and is the reason he beats you from a roll.

I understand that, what I'm saying is drop my engine in a 3600 lb f body and run it on the highway. Different animal. I know locking the verter would help, but the weight is the killer when a 5000 lb pig is running sonething over a half ton lighter.

That's something all truck guys have to deal with...its assumed that everyone who mods trucks knows about that weight disadvantage. So make more power! That's my philosophy lol.
