Roll racing...

Roll racing... I don't get it. Is it because you can't hook fom a dig? Is it because of the popularity of turbos and the advantage they have in this situation? I used to do that stuff when I was a kid but it had a purpose... to get someone to race from a dig. Roll-ons just seems like a funny way to race someone. I like the stoplight stuff. The anticipation and the hard launch is what I like, it's way more fun.
Quick question: What's even more boring than roll racing? Answer: Watching a video of guys roll racing.
There's no NRRA (National Roll Racing Association) yet but you just never know, the way things are going. It seems to be getting pretty popular but you can count me out.

Couple reasons.....lets face it, a majority of racing happens on streets, not at the track. Stopping in the middle of a street, most likely and interstate, isnt very practical, but going from 30 or 40mph is...
Second reason is traction, especially in trucks, once you get past 400-500hp, no street tire is going to hook from a dig, and most guys dont drive around with full slicks all the time.
Going from a dig is more fun, but from a roll is more practical for the street.

I don't really like it, but I'll do it. I'll race anything, anyway they want to race. I believe that anyone who loves racing/speed as much as I do will do the same. Don't get me wrong, if we can get it done from a stop, that's how I'm gonna do it. Some people just won't though, whether its because they don't have sticky tires, or they're affraid of breaking something, whatever...Some of the guys do the roll racing thing around here because they say it shows who actually has more power instead of who has the best suspension setup. It's whatever. I'll race from a roll, a dig, backwards, sideways, on foot, it don't matter. I won't look down on someone because of the way they choose to race.
And actually i think there is a national roll racing association or some **** like that

If I could stop in the middle of the interstate, I would race people from a dig. I meet most of my matches on the interstate. No one wants to race from a light cause my cam is too damn noticable.

i don't race, I just ride around with my hair spiked and my aviator sunglasses on.....I even get my spray on tan and try to halla at girls while I do this too.
In my town there aren't anymore places to go and dig race, and going from a stoplight is asking for a ticket. I will run from 30mph and up on my street tires cause like Atomic said, 500+ hp on a 20" street tire will cause more attention to you than just hitting it from a roll. Under 50 ish is worthless on the street for me unless I am on my radials. That being said, Ill try anything......just won't expect much!

Don't get me wrong, I like all types of racing, too. And I'll take a roll-on challenge. The difference is that there's nothing but stoplights around here and no interstates. I like the stalk, getting in position beside someone at a light, and then egging them to go. The fines for speeding are ridiculous here but accelerating quickly has no penalty unless it involves a showy burnout.

With my 6000# grocery getter, I am worried about breaking hard parts if I put it in 4wd and mashed the skinny pedal. I will agree, it is more exciting than roll racing, but also much easier to get pulled over.

I would much rather see racing from a dig because it takes more skill, not just mash the pedal. Anyone can throw in a big cam or big turbo and mash it from a 60 roll on the highway. Not everyone can launch well.
Dig racing shows driver skill.
