Default Older guys/racing guys, fuel system set up

Long story short I need some insight from some old school guys or racing guys alike:

Anyone heard of or have personal experience routing the return in to the inlet of the fuel pump (external) about halfway between the tank inlet and fuel pump nipple?

Killing my fuel pump as we speak in my LS swap, I'm probably still 1mo or so out from getting my home brew fuel cell in and a shortened wheelbase. Anyone with some info please post up, need to make my pump last

The only thing that I can come up with is a negative, and that is it seems like the fuel might overheat in the rails because the recirculated return isn't cooled by the fuel in the tank. Just speculation, I have no experience with such a setup.

Thanks for your input, ended up not going that route. Will just have to hope my pump lasts til I can chop the frame and get my fuel cell in.
