WTF?!? I keep blowing oil pump fuses!
#1
I just did a cam and spring swap. It wasn't an ordeal or anything as this is my 2nd one on my truck. I upload the new tune (thanks Kyle) and fire it up. It runs fine, oil pressure is good, no coolant/oil leaks. So I decided to go for a drive after everything was warm. Everything seems nice and normal. I get on it a little, and I mean a little. Like barely into boost, and then poof, smoke out of the tail pipe. I pull over and sure enough it's the good 'ol STS oil pump fuse. I replace the fuse, and drive around a little more. I'm having no issues until I bring it up to 1 psi in 1st gear. Pop! The fuse is blown again. I did this one more time before giving up.
I blew the fuse once about 2 months ago. I replaced and I've had NO issues since. Did I bump or pinch a wire or something during the cam swap? Why does it only pop when getting into boost? Is it because the pump switches into high mode?
Side note: I threw a P0200 code, which I've NEVER seen before. Something with the injector circuit. Could this be related?

Hummm..... Don't know about that code, but sounds like you have a short in the 12v side of the oil pump wiring. It seem like your only blowing the fuse when the pressure switch on the intake see's boost and it by passes the 9v resister.

Well I'm thinking the code and the blown fuse are related. I did a search over on tech for that code and a lot of people's problems can be traced to a short in the coil packs or somewhere else. One guy even said the cause was due to plug wires. I did replace my plug wires when I did the swap, so I'm wondering if that could be an issue. Also I reviewed my log and I noticed my bank 1 O2 sensor isn't reading properly. I'm getting a max of 54mV.
That could be the cause of a short. Hmm...I think I'm going to pull one of my rear O2's out and put it in place of the front.

The plug wires I bought are the bosch ones and I remember them being a little short. I wonder if one of them is making a bad connection and causing the code. I doubt it, but who knows.
I'm willing to bet my bad O2 sensor is related. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for an STS kit?

I figured it out! On of the wires that I ditched when I got rid of the solenoid valve got caught between the head and valve cover. It was ground itself everytime the pressure switch kicked on.
The plug wires were junk too! I put the old ones back on and that made a huge difference.
As for the P0200 code, I saw that I have exposed wires on a couple of my O2 sensors. I think this could be the culprit as they are probably shorting out.
Another day another fight. Time to party!

There's 2 different length plug wires, ask Chris how he knows this
