Why don't bypass valves seal 100%?

Default Why don't bypass valves seal 100%?

Just replaced the BV on the Procharger with the billet unit. Noticed that the valve had a gap around it and blowing through it confirmed that it didn't seal comepletly, seems like that would bleed boost....?

Heres a pic the old one actually used a Ford choke pull off. New one looks cool but works the same.

Is it possible that boost pressure seals it the rest of the way?

Im not sure that is poss, due to the fact that they are just metal to metal, with out any type of over lap.. Basically a throttle body design, unless their is some out there that I havn't seen

I called ATI today and asked them. The tech said he had the same concern on his car but the engineers assured him that it didn't matter.
Maybe the volume of air that is moving more than makes up for a little bleed off.

If you want one that seals completely get a vortech race, max flow or mondo. They are a piston type valve with a rubber O-ring for air tight seal. I also think the ATI race valves are piston type have o-rings but am not positive. Keith went from the basic procharger bypass to a vortech adjustable valve and the only difference we noticed was with the adjustment of the vortech valve we could bring boost in quicker but max boost stayed the same.

Well that is what im in for. I have checked in to the vortech one, could you def tell that the boost cam in quicker??

+1.

You can adjust the spring on the Vortech style to the lightest tension so it closes earlier and the boost comes on quicker.

Not sure I want boost any sooner, traction issues.
What is the price range of the other valves? The procharger billet was 160.00 and the race version is 414.00.

A procharger Maxflow Bypass or Blow Off Valve runs about $270.

The boost coming on sooner won't effect your traction issues. You will just notice that at part throttle the boost will start building earlier.
