Hey guys, i have a gen 1 whipple 2300axo, about 70k on the supercharger, recently started making noise coming from the rear of the blower, sounded almost like marbles rolling around inside the case. Decided to take it apart. The drive gears look perfect and the twin screws look perfect, and the case shows no signs of wear, in all reality, im thouroghly impressed with the looks of it. The only bad part of the teardown is the fact the the needle bearings in the rear are fairly dry and the left bearings have some exceptional back and forth play. Jonbondperformance has replacement bearings and im going to end up buying some, but im not sure how safe it is to try to replace the bearings myself, as i dont have a press to fit them in. Is there any tips, tricks, or know hows on how to reinstall them correctly? Or should i try to find a machine shop to do the grunt work? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
I always assumed that somehow the gear oil circulated to the rear bearings, now I know how they are lubed. Mine has made that noise for a long time. Are those the inner races on the impeller shafts?
YI’m assuming you can get a blind bearing puller on the non drive end bearings. If you take off the timing gears to replace those bearings they will have to be retimed during reassembly. May be a better idea to get a rebuilt set of rotors.
Yeah theyre the bearings for the rotors in the rear. The rotor pack bearings are fine. But i tell you what.im getting extremely desperate at this point. I cant get these damn bearings out to save my life. I have brought it to 5 different shops. 2 of them broke their pullers, 2 of them wont even touch it, and the 5th was unsuccessful at getting them out. So here i am, i purchased a inner puller set with the slide hammer, and it doesnt even budge them, ive tried pb blaster, heat, the grease method, wet toilet paper......everything. ive even had some friends swing by that are mechanically inclined and still, the bearings havent budge a single bit. I dont have the time to send it out to jbperformance because were supposed to be moving out of state in 19 days. Im at my wits end and ive exhausted all my options at this point. If you guys have any idea on how to get these out please please please throw some advice my way. This truck is supposed to be pulling the trailer for the move!
Crazy me, I’d put the whole thing in the oven and see if the bearings would drop oit or drill a little hole on the back side in a location that matches the outer race and drive them out with a punch. Block the hole with a plug when you’re done.
