Whipple and 8-Rib Smaller Pulley?
#1
Alright, now that the truck is together and everything seems to be running fairly well, I have had a chance to get into it more and I am only seeing about 5.5-6psi with the Whipple.
It is the old two-belt setup, so I have read that I can go pretty small on the supercharger pulley itself. Right now I am running a 3" pulley, but am thinking about going 2.5". Just basic math gives me another 4psi of boost from that, and if it does, I will be happy.
There are still several questions surrounding this though. First of all, I want to go 8-rib and to do this, I think it will be much easier on the two-belt setup, as I just have to find the right idler and tensioner pulleys.
I believe I have found those, but wanted to run them by you guys.
Grooved pulley 6-rib
Dayco 89004
Equivalent pulley 8-rib
Gates 38052
Smooth Idler pulley 6-rib
Dayco 89003
Equivalent pulley 8-rib
Gates 38023 (Only difference I see in this pulley is that it is not flanged like the Dayco. Would this matter?)
Tensioner
Off of a 88-89 corvette (according to whipple) I don't have the specs on this, but the 8-rib tensioner that looks the same is Dayco 89446.
Supercharger Pulley
Lee @ ASP said he could make me an 8-rib pulley at 2.5" easily.
Crank Pulley is already 8-rib, so no changes there.
So.... with all this said, what do you guys think I will run into as far as issues with these changes?
