Sounds like the engine ingested enough oil to bend the rods. I'd check and double check and triple check your PCV system and the turbo compressor side seals. You shouldn't be able to wipe wet oil from the throttle body. Find and fix the problem now before it destroys another engine. If you stick another engine in there without doing anything I'd put money on that one dying in short order as well.

Do you have a PCV system? How is it set up?

A mis-routed pcv system isn't going to go thru 3 quarts of oil in 10 miles. Especially if you say you babied it and stayed out of boost. At this point, by your description of events, the turbo is suspect. If you have oil in the intake, there's a telltale sign. You also say you have bent rods. If enough oil(3 qts in 10 miles is alot) was being pumped into the combustion chambers, this could also happen. What has me confused here, is that your mechanic, who did a damn fine job, can't figure this out. Good luck with your truck, I really hope you get it fixed quickly and correctly, without any more problems.
