My local plumbing outlet has them - I would think that any store that sells large water valves (8" to 20") would have them, they primarily used in industrial apps. This is the link to where I buy mine: http://www.scholzenproducts.com/ - If you can't find them on their websight call them, I've personally seen them on their shelf.

Steam. You'll see it mostly in industry and commercial buildings. Natural gas in commercial buildings for the larger lines. Process piping besides steam in industry. Most pipe over 2" is welded, it's faster, and it's less prone to leakage than screwed together pipe. If you do have a leak in a new system after the pressure test, with a weld you just grind out a little and reweld, with screwed pipe you might end up taking a lot of pipe apart if the end or a union aren't close to the leaky joint.

you being from Saskatchewan would probably get it pretty easily from a oil field supply story i believe they that they call those 90degree elbows with beveled butt joint... I've ordered enough of that crap in my career i should be able to just name the part number try baron, CE Frankline, Apex just to name a few of the larger distributors
