Default Twins for Towing???

I was just trying to find a way to lower my EGTs while towing. I have done everything to keep my temps in check. The problem is I am towing a huge trailer. My engine lookes good and runs fine, but for how long.

My thought was to run twin turbos, not to increase boost or spool but to double the exhaust flow. Would this work? On the face it seem like it would but anyone one have any input?

I run 1400 to 1450 ish at WOT no trailer. It runs 1250 to 1300 all the time , normal driving. When I pull a long grade I see 1550 to 1600 deg. I see a steady 1450 just towing down the freeway.

Nelson adjusted my tune to help lower my Egt's. I was seeing 1600 plus, but now the most I see is about 1400 under hard boost. It could be that you are just too lean.

I am at 11.3 to 1 AFR on my wideband. I have ssen lower temps but only when I was pig rich at 9.8 to 1 AFR and no power. I am looking for a happy medium.

You might try a larger A/R exhaust housing. It would allow more flow and might lower your EGT. Side effect would be, it would move boost curve up in to the rpm range more.

Maybe have a second tune for towing worked into the Tow/Haul button. I know guys are running "race" tunes programmed into the Tow/Haul button with more timing and such for when they have higher octane gas in the tank....on track days.

Once I get my tune where I want it, I'm going to enable the C.O.T and have it a bit richer. that way when me EGT are o.k it wont be running rich but when they start getting up there in temp, it starts dumping more fuel.
I don't know how well it will work, but I'm going to find out if summer ever comes.

I have seen EGT's come down significantly when using nitrous with forced induction. Fuel injected cenrifugal at 18 psi, EGT's were at 1550*, with a 250 hp shot the EGT's came down to 1250.
The total output was 950 rwhp.

A little bit of water injection can help. Water(H2O) has a high speciofic heat capacity, which means it can absorb a lot of heat.
A small amount of the combustion heat is used to vapourize the liquid water into a gas, steam.
You will also have a VERY clean combustion chamber as a result.
You can use a pressure switch to turn the water injection on and off, so it will only activate at the exact time you need it.

Just an idea.

Goodluck, thats a nice setup you have.

Tow Haul button only has controls for trans shifting and pressure tables. It can do nothing for timing or fuel, you would have to have some tuning software and do re-flashes to go between 2 different tunes. EFILive's new V2 interface that coming out in a couple of months will be able to do this and they say they have plans in the works for a small programmer that will be able to upload precaned tunes for such a situation.
