Default Turbocharge a 2001 4.8 chevy shortbox

Hey there performance people!

So I have taken it upon myself to turbo charge my 2001 silverado 4.8 LS. I want to get between 500-600hp and still run off pump gas. Will also need to find a tuner to tune for the boost.

First off what size and make of turbo is going to give me a fast spool speed and still create up to 1 bar of boost?

Any decent 75-78mm turbo should get you there but you'll need a nice camshaft along with injectors/fuel pump aswell. I'll leave the brand up to you, some can be had for 400-600 from vendor's like VS racing or you can spend more on a borg or precision turbo.

Just be aware that around the 500-550hp is the limit on a skinny rod 4.8 like you have.

Do you think these flowtech forward mount turbo headers will be any good for my project?

And would 57lb/hr injectors be enough?

They'd work if you want them to work. You can buy a turbo manifold from a vendor and build your hotside if you wanted too. Or create a fully custom hotside. Using those would keep way more heat in the engine bay though.

57lb/hr would be enough for 500hp on pump gas for sure. Just make sure whatever injectors you get are decent quality.

Which vsr turbo would you recommend I'm thinking of doing a rear box mount to save money on piping plus under hood temps would be able to use my stock manifolds. Only my intake and intercooler would be in the bed.

I'd honestly get a KB kit with the sxe369... quick spool and capable of the power you're talking about. Cheap out the door too.

So silly.

If you gonna put turbo in bed (stupid) dont even bother with a intercooler. The enormous amount of piping back to TB will be enough to cool the air.
It will also be a laggy *** dog of a setup.

I know this is an old thread but I have seen a couple rear mount setups not doing to bad lately. Most recently an 80 mounted in the bed of an S-10. CX racing A2W in bed also. Turbo sizing and pipe sizing being the biggest factors.
