Exclamation turbo vortech

hello I'm john, I'm fairly new to forced induction and understand the principles and basics very well, however im stil a complete greenhorn in this application of power gaining. so with the introduction out of the way from here on out you will have to excuse my typing errors.
my truck is a 1998 gmc k1500 4wd 5.7L vortech/vortec and ita all stock with 231,000 miles on the motor. what im going to do is locker the rear end and re-build the transmission. then im going to put a single(1), 70mm turbo from on 3 performance due to the cheap price of 400$. i have the intercooler placement planned and where ill route the boost tubing. what im asking from this forum of clearly far more experienced people is what is the best way to route the exhaust tubing so i dont cause havoc with either bank, also where is the best placement of the turbo, and if there are any questions ill be back nightly to check on this posting. all help is greatly appreciated as well as if anyone finds better parts for cheaper.

p.s. i only need 6-8lbs of boost, a/c will be removed, water/meth is a possibility, transmission cooler is already relocated. what may i need to buy besides the basics like a turbo, tubing, intercooler, blow of valve, oil lines

you could run a front mount , or a rear mount. a frount mount you would use a stock manifoild, and a custom flipped log to mount the turbo and have a cross over pipe. then run your down pipe and exhaust down your passengers side.

You might have a poor platform for turbocharging... If I remember right, you have a "spider" type fuel injection system that only has 19lbs'hr injectors that are not upgradable. I've heard of guys swapping out to marine intakes you can put bigger injectors in, but they are not cheap. Just what I can recall off the top of my head. You'll need to make sure you can add fuel for the boost before you get to far into this project

Like Kyle said your stock intake won't be good for boost ,
You'll want to run an edelbrock manifold with injector bungs welded in and prob a new throttle body . This has all been done before , so go for it !

I think you can also use a GM ram jet manifold also .

Yup, ram jet can be used for sure. I think there was a turbo build that used the ram jet on here years ago when I joined with my 2 door tahoe... lemme see what I can find.

ok si have a new plan. Iknow this is rather indecisive but i think im going to just rebuild the entire thing since ive got 233k miles now. ill just bore the block 30 thousandths over and buy new everything. im thinking still injected and ill rebuild the trans. i dont mind the crate packages but id prefer if someone could hand me a list of parts so i can build it myself.
what i want:
injected (marine or other intake, not carburated)
best cheap performance rods
best cheap computer system
keep it kinda cheap but go nuts. also id like to run twin turbos and performance studs
ill find a friend to make new logs and also i really dont know how much itd cost but id like to remove the a/c system. a price quote with a list would be nice

if your gonna go that route why not swap to a 6.0.. most guys get m done for around 2000$ and then you have a better platform for boost. while at it toss a stick shift in and enjoy for years to come
