What temperature is not good for a turbo??
Just wondering, I got this cool Fluke Temperature thingy from work today and went driving around town for a few mintues and got back and started shooting everything... (laser temp thingy... pretty neat)
Turbo>
Hot Side-216*F
Cold Side-118*
Exhaust Manifolds-274*F
Charge Pipe- 85* at the TB and 112* at the Turbo.
W/A Intercooler Inlet-105* Outlet-84*
Just curious,, cause 216* aint that hot for an exhaust piece.

Definetly not hot. Were you stomping on it before you got home or were you under load much? How long after your drive did you use it?
We use that heat sensor at work on our marine engines and we see our manifolds reach 390*F on average on Medium speed diesels. Under full load they get alot hotter.

Under boost and load you would see over 1000*F in the manifolds. Front mount tubular stainless turbo manifolds glow nearly translucent under boost, and the turbo gets all that heat. As long as your oiling system works good, your sts should be happy.

When I had my Typhoon I'd see my turbo get discolored after some hard driving and have seen pictures of housings glowing red where you can actually see through them and see the turbine spinning. That was a front mount and ours dissapate heat much better anyways.

Crusing at 85mph my egts are between 1,100-1,200* and have been like that for a little over 2 years with no problems... So far... :-\
