TURBO or HEADS upgrade??
#1
Hey guys, all advice is appreciated!
My current setup:,
370ci, stock 317's, precision 76/75, stock48 cam, meth injection..
Anyways, my truck made 717rwhp with meth and VP110 @14psi and ran a best of 6.80 1/8th of mile..
My question here..
What should I aim for to upgrade?
I have been told turbo S480-S485 from forcedinductions and another upgrade could be Brian tooley's 220's as cast..
What should I go for? Both of them are around $2k so I definitely can't do both at this moment..
Thanks guys in advance!
Felix

While I don't think 717 HP is the most that turbo can make, I do think its close. At this point I would say the turbo upgrade is unequivocally worth more power. It will change the way the vehicle drives and makes power fairly substantially. Prepare yourself for more lag.
In your shoes I would view it like this: The heads will allow you to push the combo harder and make more power, but the turbo swap will give you entirely different limits. The limit on the 480 could likely be the stock heads lifting. At that point I would do the head upgrade.

Better then the stock 3" for sure.
You really haven't started pushing that turbo @14psi.
If air temps are in control id turn the wick up prior to jumping to a larger turbo.
Going that route will need a larger down pipe as well as larger air filter, oil inlet fitting, and the discharge silicone could be different.

Like said, more boost first, see what's left in that turbo. Heads won't get you hardly anything if the turbo won't pump more air. 18psi and see what kinda iat's and power it will make.

I wish it was that easy man, my tuner had me @11psi with 93 + meth.. I had to add VP for him to be able to turn it up to 14psi.. he said something is keeping him from making more power, but we dont know why.. he said I might need a better turbo, or better cam.. (I have a stock48 cam 221'ish which I like a lot btw)

Look to iat, injector duty cycle, or final exhaust choking you.
Could possibly be valve springs but that should show different.
