Default Turbo gearing 4.10 --> 3.42

I have a set of used OEM 3.42s laying out in the garage that I got basically for free. I've currently got 4.10s and my tires are a hair over 28" so it's a pretty short overall ratio. People toss around the generalized statement that turbos love tall gears, but anyone with any actual experience? Only person I could find searching was black 4.8.

I would like a answer to this as well. But from what Ive gathered tall is better as it loads the turbo quicker so it gets into boost faster. Here is the thing. Im not sure to keep my 3.73s in my Tahoe, or go with some 3.23s to LOAD a big turbo like a s480 up with a T6 flange. That should keep it in boost often, and also pull crazy up top as its always loaded better. But Im going to try it with the 3.73s at 1st. I have a 4 speed 80e.

I have 3.73 in mine with a 30.5" tall tire and an 80e and love it. I cant compare it to another gear ratio though. I can say with the tall 1st gear of the 80e, I wouldn't want anything taller than the 3.73s. I have a small turbo, but I'm at full boost under 3000rpm

Longer gears load the converter more. You need to match gears to your converter.

My only experience was when I was at only 5.5lbs with a very conservative tune with the 67 mm rear mount. My first time at the track with a 4l60 and3.42s and 26-2800 10.5" converter, 20"x32" tire. A VERY disappointing 9.54 in the 1/8th. What a pig!!! 4.10s front and rear, same weather conditions, 8.90 few days later no other changes whatsoever. You asked, that was my experience.

I'm in the same situation- still have some 3.42 and currently running 3.73 - 30.8" tire in a 2wd setup- it was awesome N/A but now boosted I can't hook well and it runs out of gear quick IMO. I'm thinking it would help the traction issue some and give me more up top.

My past experience was n/a and probably doesn't compair the same- buddy ran 3.73 In his truck and I had 3.42 he would put a truck on me easy at a launch, but at about 60-70 mph i usually came back hard and caught up faster after those speeds. I put my 3.73 in and we where damn near head to head whom ever got the launch better.
