I didn't even see the 2006 year listed, those already have the better rods. The weaker rods are from 99-03/04.

If the other motor you get is an older LM7, check the year or see what the rods look like.

Yeah, because the piston rings are worn a little bit and allow blow by.

Op,

If you rebuild the 5.3, go with forged pistons. Rods and crank have been proven to handle pretty good power.

Sloppy just broke the 1k barrier on stock bottom end and heads.
He finnaly swapped to new head gaskets and arp head studs.

He routinly hit 800+ on 100% oem highly used (250k) pull out engines with rods from random engines, head gaskets used many many times.

Check out his youtube channel, sloppy mechanics. You will be blown away with how much power this guy makes on cobbled together engines.

You must have missed a vid, lol. This motor had reused ls9 head gaskets and re used STOCK head bolts!! Crazy! lol
