Turbo

I have a 2006 Silverado 1500 5.3 LM7 ,& im planning on going Turbo. Before going turboed I need to rebuild my motor ,but I'm on a budget. I know I'm going to have to spend money anyways . My question is if I rebuild my motor with a brand new crank shaft,& brand new pistons etc, etc. can/will my motor last a great while?? I don't plan on going crazy with boost. Maybe between 8-10 pounds of boost or somewhere safe.

Why do you need to rebuild it? is it knocking?
Why do you need a new crank and pistons? are they broke?

A bone stock 150k mile 5.3 will eat 10psi and ask for more, 24/7 365.

Turbo

Just to be safe. I don't to give it the mods & it be down in the 1st few months.
The motor rn has 141,*** miles on it. & thinking i need to rebuild the heads I hear ticking now . My buddy is actually selling an LM7 5.3 block along with crank & pistons with water pump for $500

The bottom end is fine, if anything just swap over to GEN 4 connecting rods as they way stronger than GEN 3 rods. If you plan to push past 500-550whp, you want the better rods.

The heads don't make noise, it's the lifters/valvetrain that tick/clatter in all these trucks.

good googly moogly, 500$ for a disassembled 5.3 short block!

complete pullouts with ecu and harness sell for that here.
Tell him keep his gold plated short block and get a complete engine for that price.

Ok awesome. I'll keep that in mind . I was wanting to atleast try & see if I can push 550-600 on stock internals

bud, hotrod mag took a 160k junk yard 4.8, regapped the rings and set it up on a engine dyno with twin turbos, the bone stock junk yard motor spat out over 1k hp with over 50 dyno pulls.
They claimed after inspection it hard Zero damage and was confident it could take that abuse for quite some time.

Damn, that's crazy!! Hell yea man I'll definitely have to look into it more '!!

Sloppy mechanics has a 265,000ish mile junkyard 6.0 pullout with a cam swap making over 800whp. It made 992 once or so and he's going for 1000whp on the stock crank with gen 4 connection rods and stock pistons. He's got tons of video's on youtube about it all.

Since you've got an 06, I would just do a cam, valve springs and push rod swap, then Boost it with a good tune. Be sure your drivetrain is up to par as well. Good luck!
