Default Torque converter behind boosted motor

What are you guys running for torque converters? I'm at about 550 rwhp. 4L80 tranny is going south. One of the tranny builders I've been talking to tells me I need a $1500 converter even if I stay with the stock stall speed. I daily drive my truck and don't want a high stall speed converter. The stock one I've been running has lasted close to 50K miles (and probably had 100K on it when I bought it used). Can think of a whole lot of other places to spend 1.5K. Your thoughts appreciated.

I had a PI 2600/2800 triple disk behind about 550rwhp for about 5 years at about 5200 pounds. Worked great.

Wilde racing ran an 11.4 in his ecsb z71 so he was well over 600rw on a stock converter.

One of the tranny gurus said a stock converter's lock up clutch won't hold up to that power and will eventually cause tranny armageddon. I like how a stock converter drives. I drive my truck every day (35K/year) and have no desire for a loose/high stall converter....no matter how much it shaves off my quarter times. The guru said that, even with a stock stall speed, a converter built to handle that much hp/tq would be expensive. Ahhhhh shoot.

Why are in o/d while racing anyway. Surely you are still in drive at the 1/4 mile and not locked up.. Unless you are top-ending it?
Tweek the tune stay out of lock up in tow haul mode. AKA race mode.

My converter was no wear near that much, and it suppose to handle 1200HP.

unless you go into lockup at wot it wont matter one bit for one thing. if you do go into lockup call circle D. you tell them what you want and you will have a great converter. The best converter you get will cost $1000 or so but can drive stock AND knock some time off for ya. its all up to you but dont listen to their crap about the stock converter not holding up.

X2, a stock 80e stall should be fine as long as you dont lock it at WOT

Precision Industries billet Multi disc converter, 2600 stall, 942$

One tough converter, drives like stock.

Either PI or Circle D should be good for ya, dont need to spend 1500 on a converter!

Hell my Dmax converter wasnt even 1500, ( 1100$) and its twice the size of an 80E stall LOL!
