I think STS beleives that this type of set up is easier to swallow for their customers than tapping into the oil pan or somewhere worse.

It is designed so that the DIYers dont have to tap into the pan. We usually just wrap the fitting in thread tape and it does great. When we do a motor job on cars with the STS, we do tap into the pan so there is never an issue to worry about.

Well they expect you to drill and tap for the oil supply, so....how hard would it be to do it again, except maybe on the valve cover. Besides dropping the pan in our trucks is pretty easy anyway.

They should provide a metal/billet cap with it tapped already. I'm sure I could douche it in teflon like you all are doing. But its going to dissolve eventually, which creates a reliability issue. Metal threaded into plastic, with hot oil going through it is a bad idea IMO.

I'm going to ask for a new one, but if it leaks again, I'm going to raise holy hell.

Cool

I have to apologise for my bad memory.

FWIW my fitting in the oil cap is threaded all the way onto the fitting and I did not use any teflon tape. I have about half a thread showing. Knock on wood, so far its does not leak or seep.
