STS oil
#1
Well, got my first dose of oil pump failure. When I put my GT67 on (replacing the 60), my oil alarm went off. I figured, different turbo has different pressure on the line so STS told me to turn up the hobbs switch threshold. I turned it in 1 full turn. Then the alarm would flutter on and off when I'd get around 7psi of boost. So I turned it in another 1/2 turn. No more sound. Then one day I was driving down the interstate and the alarm went off. No smoke or anything out of the tailpipe. Pulled the hobbs switch connectors off and dabbed them with dielectrical grease and all was quiet again. That was about 2 weeks ago.
Today I'm out hogging it pretty bad. I heard some sort of noise from the turbo right when I was about to punch it. I let out and then punched it again. Something just wasn't quite right. Then about 100 yards more smoke started pouring out. Then the oil trail. Oil was dumping hard out of the v-clamp and tailpipe. I checked the pump and it was running. No oil alarm going off. I checked the oil cap and nothing was coming through. Checked the pump and it turns on and off, even runs harder when I jump the 9v to 12v resistor.
I pulled the pump off and hooked my jumper cables to it. Turns on and oil ejected out. I had a spare used pump and I put that on and the leaking has stopped.

Maybe the impeller is bad on the pump if it is turning and no oil is coming out. Or perhaps something got in the line and plugged the return pump up. Maybe a piece of teflon tape from the install or perhaps some packing material got into the center housing during shipping. Sounds like you are good now.

BTW how do you like the performance of the GT67 compared to the T60? How do you find it compares in lag or throttle response for general street driving? Do you notice much of an improvement in mid to high rpm performance and what rpm do you have your shifts set to? I hear that the newer GT wheels are supposed to be a big improvement over the older wheels used it the T60.

BTW...my impeller is hitting the sidewalls.
I took it off today to clean out all the oil.
For your question. I was supposed to have a T60-1 when I got my kit. Ever since day 1 I've had boost issues. I've tried SO MANY things trying to overcome it. Finally, I decided to put in the 67. BIG improvement. Where I was running 8psi, my 67 spooled me to 13!!!! I had to back down my EBC all to hell. EGT's were down tremendously as well. Like 100 degree's. I sent my unit back to STS. Come to find out I had a T60, not the -1. The 60 isn't the right size for the flow of my hemi. That's why I had to push it 12 to 13psi just to get 8 at the engine and why it ran so hot all the time. 18 months with that freaking turbo!!! Enough of the rant. That 60 spooled up much quicker. No doubt about it. The 67 makes more power in the upper boost range. More power for the same boost. But since I didn't have the correct sized turbo to begin with, I'm not sure if the comparison is really valid.

Wow I know you had a lot of boost problems and it sounds like you got it fixed at last. Well that sounds like you should be happy with discovering the unexpected source of your problems and frustrations. Better late than never.
I hope that is the end of your return oil problems and enjoy your new found performance.

I'm tuned already. Things worked right off the bat. I do have issues right now. When I first put the 67 in, it sounded like ballbearings spinning in a bearing w/o oil. Made all kinds of racket. I made two video's and let STS hear it. They said it sounded like exhaust leaks.
Exhaust leaks don't go away after 15 min of driving and then come back the next morning quieter and then go away and then by the 4th day be gone. My oil alarm also went crazy with this turbo. Here is the post I posted about the rattling :

Now I've got about 200 miles on it. My turbo is lunch. STS should get it today. I'm asking that they send me a new unit vs. fixing this one. I've already got 5 days down time. I told them my oil system works, I put my pump in a bucket of oil and it works fine. I also told them it works/worked fine with my old turbo. The only reason I have this 67 is because of the 18 months of boost issues I experienced. Then find out they sent me the wrong turbo for my truck which means I wouldn't have been going through all that I did and going through now if they had given me the correct turbo. I've got an additional $600 in this after paying for the T60-1 that I never received.
I'm beyond fed up with them right now.
