Default Stock 5.3 pistons don't like 10 psi

Forged Diamond boost pistons are going in the new motor. 5.3 bored to 5.7, forged rods, rings, arp studs, bolts, 317 p & p heads. Can't wait.

Yep, Dodge 5.7L motors do the exact same thing. Is that the infamous #7 cylinder? My Dodge ate all the drivers side pistons.
You know, the crankshafts are all the same on the 5.3, 5.7, and 6.0L motors. A 4" stroker crank drops right in and is not too expensive these days. A full Eagle 4" crank kit can be found for $2000 or less including custom pistons. Just a thought since it will be apart anyway.....

Dont think that is boost, that is detonation. Chaulk that up to a bad tune.

Default not the tune, just stupidity

Truck was tuned for 8 psi w/ no methanol. Got a boost controller and a meth kit. Turned boost up to 10-11 psi and it was awesome. Let my nephew borrow it and ran out of meth at high boost. Should have turned the boost down before I gave him the keys. YES...It was detonation, due to no meth. Regardless....I GET A NEW MOTOR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh yeah, tuning on my part. It does not take nearly as much thought to turn the boost controller up as the required tuning change. Sure makes big parts into many smaller ones.
I remember Parish stuffing close to 20psi into his original 4.8L to see if it would cry for mercy. The motor lasted longer than his meth and patience. Course that was on good gas and lots of vital engine monitors keeping things in check, ie a great tune.

I had a boost spike to 22psi, and it held ok on the dyno. But I have 317 heads on.

That is exactly the reason I don't trust meth coolers. Even if you do everything perfectly, parts can still fail leading to catastrophe. An inter/after cooler is best and I like to add nitrous. If I run-out of n2o no damage, in fact, the wide-band o2 will correct and it still runs well.

I agree with others, since you already have it apart, put in a forged crank too. I think you'll wish you had.

That stock crank will handle what he is going to run, plus he will have an intercooler and methanol injection. One more thing he will need to do is more turbo than the 60-1.
