Default Somewhat dumb question

So on another forum i got talking with some guy with a WRX and he claims that with the clutch pushed in, the engine won't build boost when you revv it. That just feels like it isnt right, but not knowing F/I or WRX's too much, i feel i need to know. It seems to me that such a setup would make for a pretty terrible performance turbo since you wouldnt be able to spool up the turbo for a launch???

A turbo wont spool with no load on it. Thats why people use two steps to build boost at the line in a stick car.

it wont. but on both the brakes and gas it will. Like stated it has to have a load on the engine.

I bet you could build boost on 9b Mitsubishi turbo bolted up to a 6.0L.LOL Of course they are only about 30mm.

That's why they rev them to redline then drop the clutch, boost is pretty much instant. Or they use a 2-step, then drop the clutch. Either way, unless you leave the line with boost, you'll have a fun time chasing them down. I've heard of some people being able to slip the clutch to build boost, but to me that just seems cazy.
