I think a big single would be nice if you don't run into problems with fitment. If you are going to make the same power with single or twin, the single will do it with less plumbing and possibly be cheaper (although not much).

My turbo isn't that big 62-1, but it makes full boost 10-11 psi way before 4000 rpm, more like 3000.

That's tiny comparatively speaking . We're talking PT88 / GT4288 ish as the border line to "big thumper". Those won't be spooled at 3k.

a local guy here actually a moderator on 'Tech as well ran a custom front mount S88 on an iron 370 for a while in front of a powerglide and a S60 rear... I have ridden in that car and been in the dyno room with it. Trust me, you wont have issues spooling it with that many cubes... I'd recommend exactly that turbo as a matter of fact.

He went deep 9's on radials, and was on his way to 8's if his heads wouldnt have lifted. His name is NA$TY-TA on 'Tech if you want to look it up... he has a complete build thread in the staff vehicles showcase... the car is currently down getting a new motor/turbo setup and some other goodies, I dont think 8's will be a problem this time out...

Be a pioneer and get sequentials

I would try it if it wasn't for the money, the time, and the lack of knowledge to spec them, and tools, and fab skills.

It will spool, How much boost you have @ 3,000 RPm, I don't know but Im sure it would be spooling up by 3000, especially with a big cube motor.

pt88 on a 408 was a little slow to spool but i could brake boost it to 8psi and rip all 4 loose if i wanted to. my stall is too tight, with a true 3500+stall a pt88 would spool up quick(time wise) on a 408. dont know much about those other turbos but they sound interesting. the pt88 is prety small and will fit under the hood easy. it also has a 4" inlet so you can put a filter on it and you can get it in a t4 flange so a kit like the trick kit wont need as much modification to make it work.

Since we're comparing turbos here, what about a GT4788 or PT88 vs. S-88 or S-85? I think if you were to go single the Borg Warner turbos are the only way to go. I think you can get them in a T4 flange too. Look at what 8ALTNG is doing with his leaving off idle. He's not even pushing into the efficiency range yet. From what I've heard they **** all over the GT and PT turbos as far as spooling too. How they compare to twins, who knows?

When I say spooled, I mean fully spooled up, not starting to spool. Yeah, they're all spinning by 3k -- all the time in fact

But, I don't think an 88mm turbo will hit full boost at 3k like your 62-1 probably does (or my GT67 on the 6.0 and the GT70 did on the 408 did). I don't know what to expect with my twins (stg III 60-1s) in terms of being fully spooled, but the reason I'm running .48 AR turbines is to try to get lots of boost as close to idle as possible

Quik told me before that he's okay with something that doesn't hit full boost until 4kish (which could be 3800-4200 to my mind) and he spins it up high (what 7k Q?). That said, any of these medium frames will do that pretty easily I think. Heck, I think a GT4288 spools by 4400 on a rear mount. I'm not saying those turbos suck -- I'm saying they kick *** and if you're okay with a delayed full boost hit, RUN ONE

I'm actually not even saying these won't be fully spooled until 4k for sure (although that's around where I believe they will) -- I'm just saying Quik said he was okay with that range, and given that there's no reason not run to a big single.
