Runnning an intercooler w/o FI???
#1
I know this sounds weird... but it's for my little brothers 2010 cobalt. I have browsed on cobalt forums with no luck. They only really cover the ss cobalt and not much n/a. We were just wondering if running an intercooler w/o boost would have any benefits. Would any benefits be counteracted by the extra work the engine has to do to pull in the air? What do you guys think?

I see your outside the box.Since your open to some creative ways to make hp I would fart with compressed air operated off a micro switch.Injected before the air filter.Given the size of the engine you might feel a little power increase.Personally I have never tried it but, in theroy it would work.

a chiller setup similar to what i think trick or kb made back when that use's freon from the a/c to cool a radiator in the intake would possibly be some benefit .
but it could possibly hurt since its creating a restriction in the intake .
for the money , buy a dam nitrous kit . cools your iat's as well as adding more oxygen.

Making boost heats the intake air. When you compress air it gets hot. Some ways of compressing the air make less heat, but still, when you compress air it gets hot.
In a nutshell, if you aren't compressing air to make boost you aren't making heat for the intercooler to remove. Your best bet would be to use a fresh air (cool air) intake and spend the rest of your money and efforts on something else.

or just pull the rear cover , leave it off . instead of running oil to lube the gears and cool them . The added open airflow will cool the gears and net less parasitic loss. Pure win.
