return fuel
#4
I can. Just did return swap on my truck. You will need a set of fuel rails setup for return. Also being that the fuel filter is in the bucket you will need to install a inline fuel filter. I would run some -6 steel braided hose for the feed and return. For the return you can either drill a hole on the top of the bucket and put a bulk head fitting with some aluminum line going through the bucket some the fuel will return on the bottom side of it or drill a hole in the gas tank and put it there like I did. It's not gonna be cheap for the lines and the pretty blue/red fittings. Here are some links for some fuel rail adapter fittings you will need.

There was not room to drill a hole on the top side of the bucket and run a line down through the bucket. What does it keep full, and how does it cool the pump/pumps?

i'm geussing you cut the bottom of your bucket off? if you drill a hole in the bucket lid and put the return tube into the bucket it fills the bucket and helps keep the pump cool when there isn't much fuel flow especially when low on fuel. some pumps like mine feed from the bucket and it needs to be kept full as possible. that way you don't have to worry about parking on hills or hard acceleration when the tank starts to get low.

The whole reason for the bucket is to be a reservoir for the pump. A tank within a tank that has check (flapper) valves so fuel can only go in. The return into the bucket helps keep it full.
