Default Questions before dropping $$$ on STS for 5.7 for Hemi

Ive decided to get the sts turbo kit for my 05 ram 1500 (5.7). A few questions I have are:

How much does the basic kit install cost (give or take). Is it possible for your average person to do by themself?

Ill be purchasing the SMT-6 tuner, do I still need to have it dynoed? How much is it per dyno, and why would you need to go (other than to see RWHP).

Are there any other options that would be worth purchasing when I get the kit?

Ill buy EGT, boost and A/F gauges. What do a set of them cost (that look like the factory gauges in our trucks) and how much to have them installed.

The basic kit is a 5psi kit, what would i need to get up to 7-8? Not looking for a $1600 intercooler just yet.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

I sell the sts kit for the ram for $3600 plus shipping.

It depends on what you mean by the basic person. You need to be able to identify and splice into the trucks wiring and oil system, run wires, etc.

You not only need the smt-6 tuner, you need the kit, which includes larger injectors and a 2 BAR MAP sensor.

So now you have to be able to splice into more wires and change out the injectors and plugs.

4.56 gears would help alot.

I'm not going to look up the prices of places in your area, you have too, as far as installing the guages. But you made good choices. Make sure that it is a wideband A/F guage.

To raise the boost you'll need a boost controller.

And if you go over 5lbs, you NEED either an IC or meth injection.

There are guys that fabbed their own air/air IC's for around $600.

We used to install these kits. We got $1500 for the install and basic tuning.

It takes time for a real good WOT tune. So that is more.

No, you don't NEED a dyno, unless your tuner needs one to tune the truck. Otherwise, it can be done on the street, but you'll need a datalogger.

Don't know about the Dodge kit, but the Chevy kit is a piece of cake to install.

i made my own and it was easy to install-----

MAKE SURE TO GET A WIDEBAND LIKE KENI SAID!!!

also you can make a FMIC set-up for alot less the $600 using ebay intercoolers- im running on 12psi right now and its been fine for 4 monthes- no one in my area running an ebay intercooler has had any problems----

have fun with it and ask alot of questions about anything it will pay off.

The Dodges are a lot tougher to tune than the gm's and need more equipment.
