I've asked this before and the response was just to change the oil afterwards.

Drill and tapping is fine. I pulled my pan on 07 and the were some stuff at the bottom from the factory. My 00 we drilled and tapped go slow use lots of greese pull the tap out several times walking the tap in to the proper depth. Each time wiping the greese off the tap and from inside the pan. Regreese and repeate.

Yeah, I did it with the pan attached, engine in the truck. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I had to do it twice and it was still a piece of cake. Just take your time and keep cleaning the bit and tap.

exactly how i did it , take your time . if you try and rush , just think of how much more time it will take to pull the motor.

if you do it in the while the pan is still on the truck.... at least drain the oil afterwards then re fill it before you start it.. so hopefully you have all the little metal shavings flushed out

I did it with the pan off the second time, the thought of aluminum shavings in my new forged motor wasn't appetizing. I drilled a hole and used a -10 bulkhead fitting (locknut on the inside) with locktite and a little sealer around the hole. No leaks yet. The first time, I did it in the truck (stock motor) just use lots of grease, drill it and tap it as straight as possible, and change the oil/filter afterwards.
