Default Question?

I dont know if this is the right place to post this but here goes. I was at a car show this weekend and I ran across a 2001 Camaro SS/SLP limited edition and the guy said he had a procharger w/ 6 pounds of boost, 6.0 heads, no cats and he said he dynoed at 600rwhp? Does this sound correct because I have 462rwhp & I see no way that I can get my truck much more than 500rwhp with out going to a 6.0L. It does help him out that he has a 6 speed but still I am puzzled? I am not doubting the ability to get to 600rwhp but with the mods that he told me I just dont see it. Maybe somebody can clear this up for me.

I would think NO...but it depends on how much cfm he's moving. 6psi on a really really really good breathing motor could mean he's actually pushing alot of air into the motor. 6psi on a restrictive motor then hell no. I think it could be possible but doesn't sound like he has such a set-up. Maybe he didn't tell you about the bottle in the back??

He said he went to the same Dyno as I did but he didnt have his Dyno chart with him because until I see that I cant believe it. I hope to see him at another car show so I can check if there is anything in the trunk.

Bradazz, not to thread jack but it occurred to me as I read your mods, our track times are very close. I haven't put mine on the dyno yet but, I'm still running stock heads/cam, 3.73's, stock TC and 20"(almost bald) tires. I was thinkin I'd be in the 450hp range. I suppose I've got alot more left on the table and 50 more horses or so wouldn't be too bad. In terms of HP/TQ my goal has always been 500/500 at the wheels. BTW how much does your truck weigh?

Fellas, dynos are tunable. You can make them read anything you want. A reputable operater keeps them "zeroed" on some standard, but others have been known to tweak a number or two for the right reasons.

I was also recently at a dyno shop that offered to run air conditioned air into a buddy's air intake and spray chilled water on the radiator for the pulls.

What model PC was it? Ask him how big the injectors are.

In the end, 6psi on a 5.7 HC car producing 600rwhp? I'd doubt it seriously.

FWIW, most guys on tech see about 550rwhp on their stock shortblock before something lets go. There are a few exceptions though, so 600 might be possible. That's usually with a lot more than 6psi with 317heads though. He might be an avid street racer, so you have to repsect the fact that he's not going to give you the whole story.

You should do some homework on his setup though. The cool thing about scouting guys that run SC's is that you can usually tell how much boost they have given the SC model and thier pulley sizes. You just hope he'll pop the hood for you and that he's somewhat truthful on the engine size. My friend and I have caught a few mustangs around here fibing a little on thier boost numbers.

I would say that you would be in the 450rwhp range but I am not real sure. The best way to find out is to get the truck dynoed just to find out how much RWHP/RWTQ your truck has and make sure everytime you go back to the same dyno just to make sure your runs are consistent, of course there are some other factors to consider but it should be real close. The absolute best to find out how your truck runs is to take it to the track and it sounds like your truck is running pretty good (7.96 - 1/8). Hopefully you reach your goal of 500/500 @ the rear wheels but I would be more concerned with your track times because there is no way to fudge track times. I still have some tuning to do & I need to work on my 60' times because I feel like my truck has either 1 or 2 tenths left to gain in the 1/8 mile with my current mods. I weighed my truck last year and it weighs 4685 pounds with me in it. Hopefully I answered you question, if not tell me what I missed. Good Luck.

I just want to know the truth so I can possibly steal his secret to use on my truck . I really hope he has 600rwhp because that would be so badass, I would pay him to take me for a ride sometime. When I talked to him he didnt say anything about changing the pulley but it did sound like he had a pretty lumpy cam but he said that came with the car when he bought it brand new so I dont know. I will see him again for sure and I will find out the truth.
