I thought I read in another post that someone had deleted the bypass on a ProCharger install. Are you referring to the surge valve set-up? If so, did you just install a blowoff valve inline between the head and the intercooler where the surge valve and hose assembly is supposed to be? And if so, what did you do with the hole on the underside of the intake elbow?
What benefit, if any, is there to this mod?

 

On mine, I just have the bypass venting to atmoshpere. I ordered a small K&N filter to put on the end of the bypass so nothing could get down in it. I then replaced the rubber inlet elbow with one that does not have a hole in it.
Most people do this because it keeps from recirculating allready heated up air through the charger. Is there really any benifit to it? Not sure. Kinda cleans up the install some though.

I agree that it would clean up the engine compartment quite a bit.
I intend on coming up with a better intake than ProCharger's set-up soon...being able to remove that elbow with the hole will be beneficial in that quest.

Mine is vented to the atmosphere too, bought it used and thats the way it was. Like mentioned you are not recirculating the hot air, I assume it does some good.

So, to clarify...

1. remove intake elbow w/ surge hole, replacing it w/ one w/o hole
2. remove surge valve and hose assembly, leaving the piece of hose attached to the 3" metal tube with surge outlet
3. using ProCharger supplied hose and clamps attached to tube's outlet, install a small K&N (or like) filter

That's it, right?

That other thread had mention of installing a blowoff valve from a turbo set-up...that is not needed is it?

Not sure what I was thinking in last post...
Gotta leave the surge valve installed before a new VTA filter...

So...it would be supplied inline "T" to surge valve to filter for venting to atmosphere.

Picked up a new Turbonetics Nitrile 90 degree elbow and an AEM DryFlow air filter for induction...
Also picked up a 1-1/2" inlet breather filter to attach to the outlet side of the ProCharger surge valve...

Is your supplied valve vacuum accuated? Mine is...has a vacuum line running to it. One pic looks like there is one running to yours, in the others, I can't tell. The valve in the pics is a different one than mine, maybe just what comes with the D-1SC or a newer design.

Yes, mine is vacumn onperated , it has a line going to it.
