The alt has to be tight( IE not being able to move), if you pop the gas it can pop the belt. The 6 rib pulleys are the same for both units. What belt are you running?

I am running a K06115 111 7/8 However I am running the old brackets with the pulleys re arranged for more belt wrap.

the K06115 is a 115 length buy looking up the numbers
