procharger head unit rebuilt?
#1
How would I know if my procharger unit needs a rebuilt? I didn't see it installed or know how it was running before. Just know that it has like 23-25k miles. And its a P1sc for a 5.3 silverado 99-02

Check for shaft play( It should have just a touch of play back and forth).. If it was maintained, I HIGHLY doubt it needs a rebuild.. Turn the pulley by hand, make sure it is free, does not bind while spinning.. Next fill it with oil, run it for a bit, then drain the oil into a coffee filter, check for metal or anything that looks like it shouldn't be there..

I checked it and it has a very little touch of shaft play in and out as you said, is this normal?... also checked the pulley and it spinned freely... what exacty does bind mean

Yes that sounds fine.. Bind as in it hangs up trying to turn it.. Again if it was maintained, never ran it out of oil, I would bet it is fine.. No true way to tell unless it is opened up, but I would roll with it..

okay cool... thank you....Its my first time getting boosted. I was going to use a twin screw but going to use this one instead. Its my daily driver and going to use some 8.1 marine injectors that I already have and the stall I have is a 2400-2600 around there but haven't installed yet and a tune. How many lbs of boost is normal and safe for my truck? Its an 02 silverado 5.3, with longtube headers with 3in y pipe, trutrac with 373, spacer and riding 20inch wheels may change to 22inch...

The 22's are going to kill the performance of the truck.. I would opt to go with a 3k+. The blower would have liked that much better.. You can run 10psi forever and not have to worry. Just be sure the tune is a good one, not some hack doing it..

hmmm I guess I should just stick to my 20s then... I appreciate so much your help, advice and guidance mangled03gmc.... I'm going to try this stall I have here.. Would I need to install a shift kit in my tranny as well or just with the stall would be fine?
