Default Procharger D-1 SC reliability??

Hey, I am looking at a procharger D-1 s.c. setup with a 3 core intercooler, 255 liter inline fuel pump, and 44lb injectors. I am leery about buying procharger equipment, because I know of, and have heard alot of stories of the s.c. blowing up and such. Is this the s.c. itself, or is it lack of maintenance on the unit. The setup has about $6,000 into it, if not more. Just wondering if i should wait for a kenne bell 2.4, or a radix kit. It is a 2003 gmc sierra 5.3 2wd.

I haven't heard of many ProChargers having to be sent in for warranty work but alot of fast race cars run these kits. Run hard, high RPMs... something might happen once in awhile. That is less likely on a street truck.

As for which one to go with, that depends on where you would like to make power. Kenny Bell and Radix will make good power down low. The ProCharger will excel in the mid to upper RPM range.

Hope this helps,
Tom

I have personally been running procharger products since 1996 and I have been running with guys that race professionally with them since before then. I have never once seen one "blow up" I have seen engines melt down from improper tuning. But never actually grenade an ATI unit. I have first hand had a vortech come apart on me and throw chunks of an impeller into the engine but that was the extent of damage.

Truthfully I don't think you know what you are talking about. For starters If you know enough to ask for a D1sc head unit you are asking for more power right off the bat. Secondly you are naming your application as a 5.3 there are several guys on this forum running p1sc's on 5.3 engines that are not only reliable but make huge numbers.

I am not trying to insult you but you out and out just basically bashed a product by saying I "heard" sounds like more hearsay than anything. I would really love to know where you heard what you did because I would like to see what kind of guys are saying that.

For your setup and your results.. a 5.3 is going to run hard with a p1sc head unit you do not need to upgrade to the D1sc unless you plan on running supporting mods. Don't get me wrong if you want to run a D1 no problem but.. 44 lph injectors and a 255 inline are not going to help you. You are going to need more fuel than you can supply in the higher boost levels and with the dynamic air flow from a D1sc head.

As for the " lack of maintenance" Procharger has proved time and time again their Self contained design is superior to their competitors. The oil temperatures are lower the viscosity stays more reliable and it is an overall cleaner setup that leads to a much longer lasting unit than the pan fed oiling systems.

As for price.. you get what you pay for but it sounds to me like you are getting hosed. I know for a fact that you can get a d1sc setup with what your asking for for alot less than 6k.

Compare apples to apples. A radix or a Kenne bell great units. But roots blowers. Centrifugal like ATI procharger and Vortech/paxton are geared towards higher rpm applications for racing. For street use the Procharger kits are very responsive and a D1sc equipped 6.0 will run side by side with a Radix 6.0 I have been first hand witness to seeing a D1sc SS with 7 psi Run 12.90's with less mods than a radix SS with equal boost, running a half a second slower.

I agreed with everything you said except the last statement...

A radix truck will be faster at lower boost levels, 5-8psi. Much more power under the curve. I am talking a 6.0 with a just the ATI and just the radix. I highly doubt a 6.0 with a procharger only will run a 12.9 at 7psi. A radix truck with no stall and cut 60's in the 1.7's.
