i have 2000 5.3 with a 212/218 cam with 918s and full boltons and i picked up a p1sc1 pro charger from my buddy for a 1000 bucks and i was wonder if my motor will be able to handle this thing at 8 or 9 pounds and if not what do i need to do to it for it to handle the boost

 

Your stock internals should be good for a while at least but your tranny will probably take a pretty quick.

 

I would look into to a FLT lv5 transmission, they are basically bullit proof. With F/I you will need one helluva tranny...

 

I don't think any trans of the 60e familly is 'bulletproof' but they do take a good beating.

Yes, these engines will take the punishment with proper tuning of course.

 

I would definately have to agree with the tranny taking a . Mine is procharged with LT's and the stock tranny does not like it. . All the more reasons to do a swap or rebuild the insides.

 

With a ProCharger at 8-9psi with a good shift it you will be surprised in the tranny sometimes.

I ran a Tahoe with 9psi for over 3 years, with nothing more then a shift kit. Constant abuse and even towed a 28' boat back and forth to lake of the ozarks at least once a month in the summers.

Never had one bit of trouble out of the tranny.


Some last for ever..... some break in days. Just kinda luck of the draw. But yes both FLT and RPM build amazing trannys and I tell all my customers to use their products.

 

you'll be okay I had mine with a stock tranny for 2 years before i upgraded. Note: I didn't abuse it because i knew the tranny could take a dump.

 

Many 60es have failed with simple bolt ons. A few have held up to FI, but not many. If you don't plan to get a built tranny at least put the money aside.

 

I am running a stock 4.8L (other than LTs and supporting mods for the procharger D1sc) and a stock tranny with no issues. Of course my tune is on the conservative side.

 

You have to be close to 400rwhp, and that is more then enough in some cases to break these trannys. So man you are on the lucky side

Also it depends on how much people play with the tranny stuff in the tune as well. I have seen some people with bone stock trucks try to mess with the line pressures and break trannys on N/A nearly stock trucks.
