I asked for just a general idea on what I might be looking at, say if it needed "these" parts but he wasn't any help.

Another guy I've been talking to in Michigan told me around $450 for a center section rebuild: new internals and new shaft/wheels. Also the same wait time.

Tough call. I'd have to change the top of the downpipe at the turbo, buy a 4" v band and clamp. Maybe some different fittings for my oil lines? I'm using bolt on flanges right now.
A rebuild can get expensive really quick. Most likely you'll need a new center section all together. if a wheel touched, the turbine is probably toast too. turbine wheels are typically a few hundred bucks along with the compressor wheel.

Hot shut down won't kill the turbo if you do it a few times. It most likely has to do with your oil supply volume, pressure and cleanliness. a little bit of oil in the exhaust isn't a big deal. You'll have that on some degree just because of how turbos exhaust seals are designed.

If you go with the BW, you'll want to up your oil feed size considerably. They run a bigger shaft and want a lot more oil. you also won't see as much oil in the exhaust because they run a dual oil seal on the turbine. garretts only use one.

The other thing that I made a recent mistake was taking the oil feed pre filter. You want to have your feed coming after the filter. Turbos are sort of like a fuse. They'll toast much earlier than anything else.

Most also don't realize that turbos are designed to be in boost. On a street gas motor specifically when they are larger in size means that 90% time they are not in boost. This promotes premature wear and will cut down on the life of the turbo. This is because they are running under the surge line for most of the turbos life.

Not saying you're doing anything wrong, it could also be that you have a ton of miles and the life of the turbo is done.

You guys are selling my on the S480 pretty well. Just working on getting the details and a price figured out now for what I need.

Just looking around. I came across this, I think this is just what I want. I also emailed Foreced Inductions last night and am waiting on a response for a quote and recommendation. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Borg-Warner-...0ce2fc&vxp=mtr

it shouldn't have been an oil issue. The turbo only had a little over 3,500 miles on it. I bought it used from a well known shop in the area who just had it rebuilt by Precision before I got it. I have -4 feed line, non resricted and a -10 return. Mobile 1 5w30 and pressures are always between 40-80psi. The supply is coming off the front of this Improved Racing thermostatic oil cooler block. Also have a small oil cooler, although the turbo feed is pre-cooler. I think I'm going to change that by drilling and tapping on the return side of the cooler block.

We -4 on most builds.
-6 on big BB turbos.

-4 at 80psi is moving a good amount of oil.

You want the biggest air filter you can get also.

BW S480 is on the way. T4 housing, 1.25 a/r, 96mm turbine wheel and race cover. Ordered from forcedinductions.com, Jose helped out a lot. Should be nice.

Anybody know what my Precision may be worth to sell as is?

I paid $1,000 for it, slightly used after a rebuild. It needs a rebuild now though. If I send it to Precision to be fixed, I don't know if I'll break even. I think when I called they said they will inspect it for free, in that case I'd just be losing out on shipping cost if I decide it's not worth it.
